Candle Care 101

We know you love your candles, but proper care is crucial to keep your candles burning beautifully. Here's how to get the most out of your candle and be safe doing it.

1. Trim those wicks

Before you light it up, trim that wick to 1/4".This keeps your candle burning slow and steady, maximizing its lifespan.
After your candle cools down, give the wick a gentle nudge back to its original spot. Wicks tend to wander, causing potential hazards. Keep it centered for optimal burn time and safety.

2. Don't burn out your candle (or yourself).

It's so cozy having a gorgeous smell drifting through your space, a flickering glow light emitting from it's spot... but limit burn sessions to 4 hours max. Overdoing it can cause overheating and wicks tend to do too much after the 4 hour mark – and nobody wants that drama.

Blow it out, let the wax solidify, trim, and relight for another sesh.

3. Safety is sexy

Place your candles on heat-resistant surfaces, away from anything flammable and never leave them unattended.

5. Let it go, Elsa: The 1/2" wax rule

When your wax hits the 1/2" mark, it's time to part ways and order a new candle. Industry safety standards insist on retiring candles at this point so consider it your cue to pop out the remaining wax, clean out your vessel and either return for a refill (check in our store for refillable, recycled-glass vessels eligible for refills) or reuse for other purposes (the recycled vessels make fabulous drinking glasses!).

And there you have it – your guide to candle care. Follow these tips to keep your candles burning safely and your home smelling fabulous.
